EDEX Careers has renewed its strategic partnership with the Career Guidance Academy headed by Mr. Ajith Jayawardana in delivering a personalised counselling service to the stakeholders of EDEX at the Mid Year EXPO 2016 . More than 4000 EXPO visitors, mostly belonging to the age group of 18-25, benefit from the psychometric testing based one-on-one career counselling carried out by over 50 professional career counsellors who are members of the Academy. Career counsellors who are all volunteers coming from diverse educational, commercial and professional backgrounds specially trained to become professional counsellors help bring a positive impact on the lives of the aspiring youth of Sri Lanka giving them a sense of direction for their future. This collaboration has provided career counselling to over 45,000 young Sri Lankans over the last 8 years. The psychometric test administered by EDEX Careers is popularly known as “The Career Key”.It was developed by Lawrence K Jones Ph.D, NCC (an American counselling psychologist, career assessment developer, and writer of international standing), re-formulated by Dr. Keerthi Premadasa and Mr. Ajith Jayawardana to relate to local careers.
The ‘Career Key’ measures the candidate’s inherent personality traits and interests, and identifies a set of career streams that would best fit the person both from an ability to succeed as well as from a job satisfaction perspective. ‘One on one’ personal counselling is provided based on the outcomes of the ‘Career Key’ Test. The test also helps students and parents who are perplexed or often remain in a dilemma, to select a specific stream for further education at GCE O/L or GCE A/L stage Envisioned to ‘Empower Sri Lankan Youth to be Globally Competitive’, EDEX was launched in 2004 as Sri Lanka’s pioneering educational expo, which has grown to be the largest and most comprehensive. With several layers of value additions introduced over the years, EDEX today is a multi-faceted platform, a multi-stake holder holistic social enterprise, governed by a passionate group of volunteers who contribute their time, expertise and resources to create a difference in school to work transition of Sri Lanka’s aspiring youth population.
