Mission EDEX and it's evolution

Challenges unfolding in this century have become so dynamic due to the emerging global crisis in several frontiers such as food, energy, environment as well as the financial meltdown among others. Consequently, millions of people have already lost their jobs worldwide, whilst millions more are expected to slide in to poverty and hardship.

It is universally accepted that right Education and Skills alone, can get people out of poverty, economic or social divides and equalities, enabling upward mobility in society. This is where we need to especially focus on our youth, prepare them to be confident, competitive young adults and help them to accomplish their aspirations.

The youth in our country have so much potential. But with cycles of mismatches and inequalities in the education system and a discouraging environment faced in post secondary education, they have very limited opportunities for progress. Most often they lack proper guidance and direction in this arena.

In 2004 the Royal College Union step in to bridge this void with the launch 'EDEX Expo' by crating the most comprehensive single platform offering the widest possible range of Choices, Options and Opportunities in higher education, skill development, vocational training leading to gainful employment.

Realizing the need to reach out to rural youth, in 2006 steps were taken to launch a secondary exhibition in Kandy. Today 'Edex Expo' has become the country's solitary twin mega exhibition.

This has now become the annual 'social responsibility' project of the Royal College Union as well.

'EDEX Expo' has also served as a platform to capture and echo the voices of aspiring youth who yearn for opportunities to realize their full potential.

Team EDEX has also taken steps to widen its outreach to youth especially from rural areas by introducing a unique web portal www.edex.lk which is now operative on 24/7 basis. This web platform offers access to countless opportunities and recourses useful to senior students, school leavers, job seekers, academic staff, career counselors and general public.

It's time to think Green
Our future will depend on the survival of the planet and EDEX hopes to help the cause by educating, engaging and activating our youth on the subject of 'sustainable living'. In other words it's time to 'THINK GREEN' We have unveiled a topical 'EDEX - THINK GREEN' Logo which will serve as a constant reminder of the importance of sustainable living.

A Green Environment, Green food, Green Energy as well as Green behaviors and Habits will be key drivers in future for sustainable living. Thus, creating an awareness of the rising global demand for Green Education, Green Skills and a new generation of 'Green Collar' Workers among our youth.

Having realized these limitless prospects and growing demand for emerging Green Education, Green Skills, and Green Employment and its relevance to the progressive development of Sri Lankan youth, we have chosen to support 'Think GREEN' as a core value during EDEX 2010 Expo.

The 'GREEN ZONE' will bring together exhibitors, individuals and corporate entities keen to display, exhibit and showcase their green initiative, products, services, technological innovations, skills development and employment opportunities leading to sustainable living.

In a nutshell, EDEX Expo offers choices, options and opportunities for world class education, market relevant skills and gainful employment empowering the Sri Lankan youth to be globally competitive. All Sri Lankan youth, their parents, teachers as well as general public are warmly invited to visit EDEX Expo on 22 - 23 - 24 January 2010 at the BMICH, and 26th and 27th of January 2010 at the Queens Hotel Kandy. We have made great effort to make your visit to EDEX 2010 Expo, a memorable life shifting experience.

Career Portal
The demand for career services from across the country has increased. As a result, the idea of developing a careers portal providing a comprehensive suite of career services was mooted within the EDEX organizing committee in order to cater to a wider audience on a 365 day basis.

The EDEX Careers Portal is aimed at providing one stop web portal for discerning youth seeking education and jobs to manage their entire career by providing opportunities in higher education, vocational training and job opportunities. It is a novel idea to develop a portal that offers both job opportunities and educational/training courses on the same web platform. This unique facility enables the prospective education and job seeking youth to manage their entire career by providing information relating to both job opportunities and also higher education and vocational training courses that enables them to obtain the required qualifications and skills needed for securing a job.

Our aim is to present individuals with choices, options and opportunities in the specific fields of preference in higher education, vocational training as well as employment. Based on the educational qualifications and the preferred career path specified by the candidates submitting their CVs, the web portal will do a profiling of the available job opportunities and educational courses and present a listing of most suitable options for the corresponding candidate.
